Belleville — The mother of two sisters killed when their car collided with an Illinois State Police trooper has filed a $24 million lawsuit against the state, police department and trooper.

According to published reports, Kimberly Dorsey seeks $12 million in damages for each daughter's death.

Attorney Tom Keefe filed the suit Thursday in the Illinois Court of Claims on behalf of Kimberly Dorsey.

The lawsuit said the family of Jessica Uhl, 18, and Kelli Uhl, 13, is permanently deprived of the girls' "love, society, companionship and support."

Trooper Matt Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to two counts apiece of reckless homicide and aggravated reckless driving. He is free on bond.

Authorities said his police-issued car was traveling 126 miles per hour on Interstate 64 last November when it swerved into the path of the Uhl sisters' car.
