Attorney General, Drug Czar: Meth Fight Continues
Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Drug Czar John Walters urge tighter controls for countries that produce chemicals used to produce methamphetamine.

ST. LOUIS — Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Drug Czar John Walters urge tighter controls for countries that produce chemicals used to produce methamphetamine.

Mukasey, Walters and representatives from Mexico, Canada, Germany, China and India were in St. Louis on Wednesday for an international conference on meth. The location was appropriate: Missouri continues to lead the nation in incidents related to meth labs.

China, India and Germany are among the top global exporters of chemicals used in meth production. The U.S., Mexico and Canada are major importers of the precursors.

New laws have helped significantly reduce meth use in Missouri and elsewhere in the U.S. Still, Mukasey says the fight against the drug is far from over.
